Ibrahim, the friend of Allah

Ibrahim’s people worshipped stones. He asked them: can these statues hear you? They became angry. They threw him into a fire. Allah said to the fire: be cool and safe for Ibrahim. The fire did not eat him.

Later Allah asked him to leave his baby Ismail and Ismail’s mother in a dry valley. He obeyed. Zamzam sprang for them. Then Allah asked him to offer his son. Both father and son said yes. Allah stopped the knife and sent a ram instead. That is why we remember Ibrahim at Eid al-Adha.
