What this book is
هذا المتن
Abu Abd Allah Muhammad ibn Muhammad ibn Dawud al-Sanhaji, known as Ibn Ajurrum, wrote a short preface so a student could memorise the map of Arabic before opening Sibawayh. The map is called nahw. It asks: is this a noun, a verb, or a particle — and what happened to its last letter?
Sister science: sarf, the ten verb forms and the roots. On Nur that door is already open. This book is the other door. After this matn, teachers take Qatr al-Nada, then the Alfiyyah of Ibn Malik. Do not jump the queue.
نحو
Nahw
How words sit together. Who is the doer. Who is the object.
صرف
Sarf
How three letters become many words. The ten forms live there.
إعراب
I'rab
The last letter changing as the job in the sentence changes.
Memorise the Arabic lines when they appear. The English is a lamp, not the matn.
