The Conquest and the Farewell

الفتح وحجة الوداع

8–10 AH

Makkah opened. The Prophet ﷺ entered with his head bowed. He ﷺ struck the idols as they fell, and he ﷺ said: truth has come, and falsehood has vanished. Tabari then walks Hunayn, Taif, Tabuk, the delegations, and the Farewell Hajj — the sermon that made blood and riba of Jahiliyyah fall, and that asked: have I conveyed?

وَقُلْ جَاءَ الْحَقُّ وَزَهَقَ الْبَاطِلُ ۚ إِنَّ الْبَاطِلَ كَانَ زَهُوقًا

And say: Truth has come, and falsehood has vanished. Indeed, falsehood is ever bound to vanish.

Quran 17:81 — recited at the Conquest, in Bukhari

He ﷺ said in the Farewell: Your blood and your property are sacred, as the sacredness of this day, in this month, in this land. Have I conveyed? They said: Yes. He said: O Allah, bear witness.

Bukhari and Muslim; Tabari in 10 AH

How to weigh this

The Farewell sermon has several wordings. They agree on the hurmah of blood, the end of riba, the rights of women, and the two weighty things or the Book — according to the path. Do not fight a brother over a sentence the huffaz already mapped.
