The ayah in tafsir

A complete cycle in one breath: winds, the stirring of cloud, the spreading, the breaking into pieces, the rain from its midst, then the revival of a dead land. This is not a poet’s blur. It is ordered. The mufassirun took it as Allah’s ordinary sunnah in the sky, a mercy you can watch.

What later eyes saw

Evaporation, transport by wind, condensation, coalescence, fall. The Quran’s sequence is the sequence. Clouds are not bags that split at random; they are lifted, spread, piled, and from their khilal the drops come. Agriculture and climate science only named the steps the ayah already ordered.

Where we stop

A 7th-century listener already knew rain follows wind and cloud. The sign is the precision of the order and the ascription to Allah alone — not that no farmer had seen a sky.
