The ayah in tafsir

Anzalna can mean We ordained, We sent as a provision, as rain is sent down. Al-Tabari allows both the sending of its law and the sending of the metal itself. Ba’s shadid: weapons and might. Manafi: every tool and trade that iron made possible.

What later eyes saw

The iron in the earth’s crust and in our blood was not cooked in this planet’s quiet. It is forged in stars and, for much of it, flung here in the violence of collapse and impact. “Sent down” is the native Arabic of that story, spoken centuries before nucleosynthesis had a name.

Where we stop

Anzala is used of cattle, of garments, of the Book. It does not only mean meteorites. The stellar origin of iron is a later harmony, not a replacement of the older senses.
